A Good+ First Edition (second impression) account of the exploits of Captain Blacker's unit from the British Army's famous Corps of Guides. Chapters include "From Yarkand To Ypres And Back", "A Dash Through The Kuen-Lun And The Muztagh", "Yarkand To Merv", "The Third Afghan War" and "Winter In Bajgiran".
Please Note: The large coloured General Staff map of "Persia and Afghanistan" at the rear has been removed and and then loosely reinsterted, whilst the removed edges don't tie up (the original map stub appears to have been trimmed after removal) the map at the rear is the correct General Staff Map (No.2149, Copyright War Office 1912 with revisions in 1918, 1920 and 1921 as shown in the detailed photographs below).
Book Condition - Good+: Hardback, 8vo (approx 9 inches / 22.5 cm tall), xiv + 302 pages with twenty seven monochrome illustrations including the frontispiece and two maps confirmed present in Good to Very Good condition (light toning to the plates, small spot of soiling to the plain top edge of the plate opposite page 50, some edge creasing and three repaired closed tears at the folds to the map of "Persia And Afghanistan - repaired with archive quality book film, no loss).
Light to moderate general wear and soiling to the original red boards and spine (spine significantly faded with half inch / 1cm cloth split to top edge, lighter fading to approximately one third of the front board adjoining the spine), gilt spine lettering and front board coat of arms clear and bright, securely bound with hinges intact, no previous ownership inscriptions, moderate to significant toning / foxing to rough cut text block edges, occasional light internal foxing, otherwise internally Very Good Minus in a very clean and clear condition throughout. No dust jacket.
