An acceptable First Edition reading copy of this very hard to find satirical view of the growing education of women in the late 19th Century - purporting to be the newly discovered writings of a lady mathematician at the ficticious Girtham College . Section headings include "Some Remarks on Female Education"; "Lecture on the Theory of Brain Waves and the Transmigration and Potentiality of Mental Forces"; "The Social Properties of a Conic Section and the Theory of Polemical Mathematics"; and "Extracts from the Diary of the Lady Professor".
Book Condition - Fair: Hardback, 12mo (approx 7 inches / 18 cm tall), xi +131 pages. Heavy general wear, soiling and creasing to the original dark green boards and spine, spine label present but illegible, firmly bound but rear hinge very weak with webbing exposed and some notable internal separation, no previous ownership inscriptions, light to moderate toning and soiling to endpapers with abrasion to the rear pastedown paper adjoining the inner margin, fore and bottom edges rough cut, occasional light finger soiling, internally generally clean and clear on moderately toned paper in a Good- condition throughout.
