A very acceptable copy of this wonderfully atmospheric collection of mono and colour illustrations from the early years of the First World War with an interesting presentation association. Inscribed "Nancy Read from Sir Alfred Yarrow, Christmas 1917" on the front free endpaper (Sir Alfred was the founder of Yarrow Shipbuilders).
Number 74 of a De Luxe limited edition of just 150 copies with Herbert Ward's signature on the limitation page. Internally Good with all 46 tipped-in illustrations confirmed present in Good+ to Very Good condition but offered at a much reduced price due to board wear.

Significant to heavy general wear and soiling to the original white boards and spine, boards firmly attached but front hinge very weak just after the front free endpaper with binding cords exposed, rear hinge firm with paper unbroken and text block securely bound (a couple instances of early internal separation), dusting / toning to text block top edge with toning to the rough cut fore and bottom edges, intermittent mostly light internal foxing (occasionally moderate) and very occasional light soiling (illustrations not affected), overall internally Good+ on lightly toned paper in a clean and clear condition.
