A near-Good early printing of this highly entertaining tale of Bamfylde Moore Carew and his adventures in Britain, Europe and North America. Includes an interesting 14 page dictionary of Cant at the rear - so if you want to know what "Henfright" is or who a "Hog Grubber" is this is the place to look.
First published c1745 and very popular throughout the late-1700s to the early-1800s with the actual authorship being attributed to a number of people.
Book Condition - Fair+: Hardback, small 16mo (approx 5.5 inches / 14.5 cm tall), viii + 292 pages with an amusing frontispiece engraving of "Carew's Frolic At The Fair" adjoining the Title Page in good condition (engraving and Title Page moderately toned).
Significant general wear and soiling to the original brown cloth boards and spine, title label still present but illegible, boards and text block still firmly bound but some looseness at the hinges and two gatherings only held by two (of the four) binding cords, original plain green endpapers still present, original owner's antique signature on plain reverse of frontis plate, an obviously well read volume with very occasional light foxing and finger soiling, generally very clean and clear in a Good condition throughout on lightly toned paper. No dust jacket.
