A good First Edition, first printing copy of this fascinating maritime autobiography by Captain Parker who started his career on the clipper barque "Loweswater" in 1882 and rose to become Captain of the RMS Olympic. No publishing history but believed to be the first printing with errata slip tipped onto the Contents page and the term "..and still, in 1931…" in the text accompanying the plate of the Olympic.
An extremely scarce First Edition and very hard to find in any condition.
Book Condition - Good: Hardback, 8vo (approx 9.5 inches / 24 cm tall), xv + 272 pages with eleven monochrome illustrations including the frontispiece all confirmed present in Good+ to Very Good condition (light to moderate production crease to the final plate opposite page 270).
Moderate to significant general wear and fading to the original red boards and spine (some small ink spots and small wrinkle to rear board cloth), securely bound, moderate toning and foxing to prelims and text block edges, original owner's neat signature on front free endpaper (dated November 1932), occasional very light to moderate foxing (most notable opposite to and adjoining the plates), otherwise internally very clean and clear on light cream coloured paper with faint paper edge toning in a Good+ condition throughout. No dust jacket.
Total weight with packaging 750g.
