A very attractively rebound copy of this extremely scarce early 19th Century French account of the oceanic islands of the world.
Originally published in several sections this edition contains a general introduction to the ocean and its life-forms followed by a description of the Arctic, Antarctic, Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans, the Mediterranean, Baltic, Caspian and Red Seas, the Persian Gulf, Hudson Bay and Lake Baikal (amongst others) by M. Bory De Saint - Vincent. This is followed by separate essays on "Iles Orcades" (Orkneys), "Iles Feroe" (Faroe Islands), "Iles Normandes" (Jersey, Guernsey and Sark), "Terre-Neuve" (Saint-Pierre and Miquelon), "Iles Bermudes", "Iles Crozet", "Iles Galapagos" and "Iles Revilla Gigedo" (Revillagigedo Islands) by M. Frederic Lacroix.
Believed to be the First Edition (no publishing history or indications of earlier printings are stated) but other, longer, versions of this work were also published by Firmin Didot Freres in 1839.
