A near-Very Good copy of this extremely scarce Second Edition history of Woodbury in Connecticut (the first Edition only covering the period to 1854).
Previously owned by Elizabeth Sherman Cameron niece of General William Tecumseh Sherman and subject of “Henry Adams In Love: The Pursuit Of Elizabeth Sherman Cameron” by Arline Boucher Tehan - please click here for further biographical details).
Book Condition - Good+: Hardback, x + pages 841 to 1610 with a further vi page "Index of Names" and iii pages of "Errata and Additions" at the rear.
Moderate to significant general wear and streaking to the original brown boards and spine, gilt spine lettering faded but still clear, securely bound with hinges fully intact, Elizabeth Sherman Cameron's armorial bookplate on front pastedown and signature on the front free endpaper, some very occasional light foxing / finger soiling, light to moderate moisture staining and corner creasing to pages 1003 to 1008, small patch of soiling to top edge of page 1467-8, some top edge corner creasing to pages 1543B to 1543F where Elizabeth Cameron has marked the section of the book concerned with her family's history (she has also marked page 1543K to correct an inaccuracy and to confirm her father's entry), otherwise internally very clean and clear in an excellent condition throughout on lightly toned paper.
Overall an excellent copy of this much sought-after volume with an important historic ownership pedigree.
