A Good+ First Edition copy of this illustrated guide to California in the early 1900s. One of the most hard to find and beautifully presented of the Black's "20 Shilling" series.
Book Condition - Good+: Hardback, 8vo (approx 9.5 inches / 24 cm tall), viii + 178 pages with thirty two tipped-in colour illustrations and folding sketch map at rear all confirmed present in Good+ to Very Good condition (tissue guard opposite page 120 almost loose with resultant creasing and chipping to the tissue fore-edge) and a two page publisher's catalogue at rear.
Moderate general wear to the original illustrated green boards and spine (rubbing to corner tips with tiny amounts of underlying boards exposed at top corners, moderate bruising to spine extremities with some tiny cloth splits, a couple very short cloth splits to the spine cloth adjoining rear board), gilt spine and front board lettering and decoration moderately dulled but still clear and bright, securely bound but front hinge just beginning to weaken at the half title with very narrow strip of webbing exposed, a couple instances of early internal separation but text block sound with no loose pages, owner's neat signature on front free endpaper and again on the plain reverse, top edge gilt, small area of snagging to rear free endpaper fore-edge with a couple very short closed tears - no loss, now reinforced with archive quality book film, some light paper creasing and light to moderate toning to paper edges, overall internally Very Good on lightly toned paper in a very clean and clear condition throughout. No dust jacket.
