A very hard to find original First Edition of this extremely scarce 1942 Rupert Annual (front board colour illustration of Rupert on the wall of a castle with Bill Badger, Podgy Pig and Scarecrow). Contains eight illustrated stories - "Rupert And The Cartwheels"; "Rupert And Odmedod"; "Rupert And The Wrong Presents"; "Rupert And The Old Ruin"; "Rupert And The Little Plane"; "Rupert And The Sea Serpent"; "Rupert And The Fire" and "Rupert At Sandy Bay".
Book Condition - Fair / Fair-: Softback, 8vo (approx 9.5 inches / 24 cm tall), 118 illustrated full colour pages + single page colour advertisement for Rupert in the Daily Express at rear - all pages confirmed present in a very clear condition.
Heavy general wear with child's pencil scribble to the original illustrated cardboard covers and brown paper spine (small amount of loss to the front corner tip), still fully bound but some notable internal separation and the text block is coming loose (the covers have been reattached internally using brown paper tape), large scribble to plain front free endpaper and child's pencilled name on plain inside of rear cover, an unsuccessful attempt has been made to erase the ownership details originally written in red crayon in the "This Book Belongs To" box, child's crayon page numbering and a couple further crayon scribbles to the top of pages 6 to 31 (thereafter a couple small pencil / crayon markings but nothing obtrusive - except for the bottom left corner of page 87) plus faint evidence of further small pencilled scribbles having been very carefully erased, printed on soft wartime economy paper with some very short closed edge tears (no loss, pictures / text not affected) and very small areas of edge / corner loss to the first couple of pages, mainly light finger soiling throughout (mostly to page edges), otherwise internally very clear with colours bright and fresh. No dust jacket but original price (three shillings and sixpence) hasn't been removed from the front free endpaper.
Total weight with packaging just under 525g.
