Summary:

A rebound First Edition, first printing of Louisa Meredith's account of life in Tasmania from late 1840 to February 1850 with all plates and illustrations confirmed present. No ownership names but known to be from the library of the author Vivienne Rae Ellis (author of "Louisa Anne Meredith: A Tigress In Exile").

Description:

Hardbacks, 8vo, approx 8 x 5 inches / 21 x 12cm, Volume 1: xiii + [iii] +274 pages with nine mono illustrations + 2 pages of publisher's advertisements; Volume 2: v + [iii] +275 pages with nine mono illustrations + 1 page of publisher's advertisements.

Book Conditions - Good Minus:

Light to moderate general wear to the rebound calf and marbled paper boards and spines (shelf rubbing to Volume 1 bottom edges with very small amount of underlying board visible at rear board corner tip).

Boards firmly attached with hinges intact, text blocks mostly tightly bound but moderate to significant separation to the first and last gatherings in Volume 2 (no detached pages), no previous ownership inscriptions (faint evidence of a carefully erased notation at the top of Volume 1's half title), moderate browning / soiling to the untrimmed text block edges, intermittent mostly light to moderate foxing / soiling (occasionally significant), occasional light to moderate finger creasing and corner turning and a very small rust hole to the text of the last page in Volume 2 as photographed, overall both volumes internally Good Minus to Fair+ on lightly browned paper in an easily readable condition throughout.
