An increasingly rare First Edition of A. Conan Doyle's excellent collection of 11 Sherlock Holmes stories that were originally published in the Strand Magazine. Each story has wonderfully atmospheric b/w illustrations by Sidney Paget. It was with the publication of this book and the original 'Adventures of Sherlock Holmes' printed in 1892 that Conan Doyle achieved international fame ('Miller's Collecting Modern Books').
Owing to the relatively low print run for this edition copies are now very hard to find in any condition.
Book Condition - Good-: Hardback, 279 pages. Moderate to significant bumping / rubbing to spine extremities and corners, moderate soiling to blue bevelled boards with notable marking at the fore and bottom edges of the front board, gilt lettering on front board still bright, spine faded, all edges gilt, floral endpapers, still firmly bound but the front hinge is cracked and there is some internal separation, gift inscription on top edge of Title page (dated 1894), light soiling and light to moderate foxing throughout (heavy foxing on a small number of pages). No dust jacket.
Total weight with packaging 1.2kg.
