A near-Very Good First Edition, second printing copy of Stevenson's classic tale. Early printing status indicated by the lack of any stated publishing history, "pleasure" instead of "business" on line 11 of page 40, "12 o'clock" instead of "9 o'clock" on the first line of page 60, single page advert for 'Treasure Island at rear with 8 page publisher's catalogue dated "5G-7.86". Bottom of last page of story (p311) states "Printed by Cassell & Company, Limited, La Belle Sauvage, London, E.C. 2.5,786".

Book Condition - Good+: Hardback, viii plus 311 pages with folding coloured frontis map in an excellent clean and fresh condition (just a tiny 6mm closed tear adjoining the margin). Moderate general wear to the original russet coloured blind ruled boards and spine, notable fading to top edge of front board, gilt spine lettering faded but still very clear, plain black endpapers, securely bound but front hinge beginning to weaken and some early internal separation (no loose pages), owner's signature on half title, internally very clean with light toning to page edges, fore-edge slightly rough cut with very light foxing, top edge toned. No dust jacket. Overall an excellent copy of this very scarce early printing.
