A very acceptable First Edition reading copy of this extremely hard to find history of the Shanghai paper hunt from its founding in the early 1860s. Complete with all six maps of the riding country in an around Shanghai on very thin and fragile paper in Good+ condition (light toning, some light to moderate edge / fold creasing and a couple very short closed edge tears at the inner margins). Very large folding frontispiece plate of the Christmas Day 1929 hunt meet (light to moderate soiling, complete but heavily repaired with document tape - no loss but a very small amount of repair overlapping).
Book Condition - Fair: Hardback, 4to (approx 11 inches / 28.5 cm tall), 173 pages with six folding maps (at rear) and numerous mono photographs and illustrations in good condition (some light to significant foxing / toning and edge soiling).
Significant to heavy general wear and fading to the original pink boards and spine (heavy wear to spine extremites with one inch / 2cm closed split to top of spine), spine heavily faded with gilt lettering just legible, front board gilt illustration of a huntsman on horseback faded but still clear and bright, securely bound with hinges fully intact (rear hinge a little loose), single small spot of soiling to text block top edge (minimal internal penetration), foxing to rough cut fore and bottom text block edges, illustrated endpapers, owner's name and address neatly written on front free endpaper, a well read copy with intermittent light to moderate foxing (most notable to the plates and adjoining pages) and occasional light to moderate soiling / paper creasing, internally generally clean and clear in a Good condition throughout. No dust jacket.
