A good First UK Edition, first printing of this beautifully illustrated children's story complete with an exceptionally rare original dust jacket.
Book Condition - Good: Hardback, 8vo (approx 9 inches / 23 cm tall), 56 pages with ten full page illustrations (including frontispiece). Light to moderate general wear to the original brown boards and spine (very narrow band of light soiling / toning to top and bottom edges; small stain to front board bottom edge), white spine and front board lettering and colt illustration very clear and fresh, securely bound with hinges fully intact, light finger soiling to endpapers and some wrinkling to the front paste-down, neat gift inscription on the front free endpaper (dated Christmas 1944), printed on wartime economy paper with faint internal toning, light finger soiling to the fore and bottom edges of pages 36-7, slightly musty, otherwise internally very clean and clear in a Good+ condition throughout.
Jacket Condition - Fair: A good example of this very fragile and hard to find dust jacket. Significant general wear and rubbing with very small amounts of loss to spine extremities and fold-in tips, 1.5 inch / 3cm pressure mark to front cover (paper snagged but not broken with light corresponding pressure mark visible on front board), moderate shelf / finger soiling to rear cover, not price clipped. Now fully enclosed in a Trimsleeve protective library cover.
