An excellent First Edition, first printing copy of John Fowles' outstanding debut novel. Previously owned by the library at RAF St Athan but without the usual markings and general wear normally associated with library-owned books.

Book Condition - Very Good: Hardback, 283 pages. Light bumping / rubbing to spine extremities and corners, gilt lettering on spine still very bright, top edge red, securely bound, book dealer's price on front pastedown, no inscriptions, two library stamps - one on base of front pastedown and the other opposite on the front free endpaper (no other indications of library ownership whatever), internally very clean with just a one inch pen mark on the bottom lefthand corner of page 64, very light browning / foxng on fore and bottom paper edges, otherwise in an excellent condition throughout.

Jacket Condition - Good: First state with no review blurbs, light to moderate edge wear and rubbing, rear of jacket cover moderately soiled with a small number of biro pressure trails (no ink marks), not price clipped. In an unusually good condition for a First Edition copy and now fully encased in a Trimsleeve transparent library cover.

Overall a near Very Good jacketed copy of this increasingly hard to find first printing.
