Bleak House

A very acceptable First Edition, first printing of Charles Dickens' classic tale with all first printing errors confirmed present:

• "elgble" on page 19 line 6
• "chair" on page 209, line 23;
• "counsinship" on page 275 line 22.

All of Hablot K. Browne's original illustrations are present but are heavily foxed as is unfortunately common with early Dickens editions.

Book Condition - Fair: Hardback, 8vo (approx 8.5 inches / 22 cm tall), xvi + 624 pages + illustrated Title Page and a further 39 mono plates (including the ten "dark plates" which comprise the frontis and nine further plates from page 360 onwards).

Significant to heavy general wear and rubbing to the rebound marbled paper boards and green calf leather spine / board tips, five raised bands on spine, title label complete with gilt lettering a little dulled but still very clear, securely bound with hinges fully intact and no loose pages (however please note that there are two blank page stubs at the rear adjoining the final page of text and a couple text pages protrude very slightly from the text block with resultant wear to their extreme edges), neatly written gift inscription on the blank page following the front free endpaper (dated January 1902), all text block edges marbled and heavily toned, margin stab holes occasionally visible internally so possibly bound from instalments, some very occasional paper edge nicks / closed tears (most notably to the plain inner margin of pages 1-4, text not affected), light to moderate general internal foxing / soiling (sometimes significant to heavy - most notably pages 1 to 40 and adjoining the plates), overall internally Fair on lightly toned paper in an easily readable condition throughout. No dust jacket.
